PIM for Windows 7

I'm retired and am looking for a calendar based PIM to keep track of
appointments that I could use on my Windows 7 laptop. I own MS Outlook
but it is overkill especially as I do not use it for email or anything
else. Google calendar would work but it is in the cloud and I would like
something that I could keep on my laptop and off the cloud.

Any suggestions?

Thank you. Jeff

Here's some good places to start your search:

http://download.cnet.com/windows/cal...ment-software/

http://www.efficientcalendar.com/
They offer a portable version that runs off a USB stick, handy, since
you wouldn't be limited to your own machine.

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2267016,00.asp

And a bunch more that I found by searching on "calendar software free".

Have fun!

I am using an earlier version of Thunderbird (Tbird 2), and Lightning as
shown only works for Tbird 9+. Do you know of an earlier version of
Lightning,
or its equivalent?

efficientcalendar seems to do just what I need. Thanks for the suggestion.
Now I need to find a utility to convert my ics files to comma sep file
to import into efficientcalendar because that is all it will import.

Thanks again.

Good suggestion. I just tried it and works for me. Also imports ics
files which is great.

Does it have a portable version for flash drive?

Yes, see (in Office section):

http://portableapps.com/apps

There are many other portable apps listed. Don't overdo it... ;-)

Check out Mozilla Thunderbird with the Lightning calendar add-on.

Don't forget with the "Provider for Google Calendar" extension you can
link Lightning to your Google Calendar (easy enough to set an account up
if you haven't got one). You can then access it from anywhere you happen
to be, and grant access to others if you so wish.

I use that indirect set-up to sync Thunderbird/Lightning on my Linux
Laptop, via the Google calendar, with my Microsoft Office calendar (via
another little sync program in Outlook). I've got the same set-up on a
USB stick too.
