Windows 7- Home Prem 64 Bit.

I tend to put the PC (desktop) into sleep mode, rather than all the way off, when I wont be using it for a few hours and at the end of the day.

Every so often when I tap the key board to waken the PC nothing happens.
I end up actually turning the PC off with the toggle switch in the back.
When the PC re-boots I get the screen if I want to start in Safe Mode or
Normally – which is what I choose.

Any idea what is going on and is there a fix?

thx

You need to enter your computer's BIOS and try different sleep states: C1, C2 and C3 are the options presented to most users. This determines how deeply the computer sleeps, and some PCs are just plain unfriendly with some of the deeper states.

Hibernation and suspension are not and probably will never be a user-friendly experience. There are too many variables.

You'll also want to make sure that all your drivers are completely up to date.

Under the Power tab, found "suspend Mode"
It was set to "auto"
I changed it to "S3 only"

The only other option was "S1(POS) only"

While there saw APM Configuration, with 5 "Power on by ...." options. All set to "Disabled"
I scrolled down to "Power on by PS/2 Keyboard" and changed it to "Space Bar"

What about: "ACPI 2.0 Support" set at "Disabled" &
"ACPI APIC Support" - set at "Enabled"
Are these 2 settings correct?

Thanks!

Hi sethm1

I wouldn't be surprised if changing ACPI 2.0 to Enabled fixes the problem.

I'm still learning the details about ACPI 2.0. I myself enabled this feature just the other day on my computer. It enhances windows capabilities when controlling power management.
