I believe you need to have an actual email program installed such as Microsoft Outlook. That is set up as my default mail program and that is what opens when I hit Send Page.

I don't use it but I think Windows Live Mail actually has parts that are installed so it would likely work as well.

What I do NOT think will work is if you only use web-based mail from browsers: like going to hotmail.com. EDIT:according to Digerati this is possible too, if you set it up properly.

While this was first setup to use a local email client (like Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, or Windows Live), you can configure Windows to use a web based email problem. But the key is, regardless the email program you use, you MUST setup Windows to use it.

See Making Gmail Your Default Email Handler or How to Make Windows Live Hotmail Your Default Email Program.

I'm using the Windows Live mail that is an integral part of Windows 7. Under options general it shows this is the default e-mail program. How do I get the button to allow me to send link or page?

This link is for Vista.
I'm running Windows 7 and Windows live mail is set as the default.
The issue is in Explorer the Page button does not allow sending page or link by e-mail. It's grayed out. How do I activate those parts of the button?

The link is merely to show you how to set up your email so windows knows your mail program; that is the same in Vista & W7.

Set up your email program for W7 (or Vista) properly and the page button will no longer be grayed out.

Thank you for the clarification. I followed the steps on the link. Under programs Windows Live Mail is not listed (nor is any other e-mail program). I don't see how to browse my way to it. I also tried Options under Tools in IE9 but unlike IE8 it doesn't show a place to select an e-mail on the programs tab.Any further advice?

Aha! I got it! It was under IE9 Tools, Options, Default programs, Set Program Access, custom pull down. Could have used steps in above link to get there also. Key step: Instead of "use my current e-mail" I selected Windows Live Mail. Thank you for your help.
