Outlook Express

Is it possible to download and use Outlook Express in 64 bit WIN7? I am
not happy with the alternatives. I am using Live Mail in conjunction with
Thunderbird, but I really miss Outlook Express. Most of the mail ptograms
work, but not as well as OE 6 that I had with XP. TIA

Unfortunately, OE will not work with Win7, but there is a way to run Vista's
Windows Mail if you want that. Do a Google for it; I saw it somewhere in one
of the forums, but can't recall right off-hand which one.

Outlook express was part of Internet explore and never available on its
own.
It was replaced by windows Mail which in turn has been replaced by Windows
Live mail It May look a little different to OE but all the same controls and
setting are there plus some more. The alternatives that I tried for news
groups (I use Outlook for Mail) Was, Mesnews and Thunderbird Both good But
plumed for WLM As that had one thing I wanted that the others did not

Have you tried Thuderbird? Works very similar to OE but has better
support for IMAP and is compatible with servers not of Microsoft's
proprietary art.

I actually don't like WLM as it's slow as hell and not as fast as Outlook
Express was. I suppose it could be a way to get more to pay for proper
Outlook but if that's heading in the same direction as WLM then well..
Think MS could do better here really.

I'm probably going to have to fork out for Outlook in the end.

Take a look at Mozilla Thunderbird.

There are many email programs available and most of them are better than
the MSFT offerings. Look at Pocosystems Pocomail or Barca (if you want an
inbuilt PIM), Forte Agent (email and news), and Ritlabs TheBat! (email
only and which I use).

I use the portable version. That way, I have mail-on-a-stick, handy for
traveling.

I don't find that to be true. WLM on my Win7 notebook is as fast as, if not
faster than, OE6 on my XP desktop. And my desktop is a much faster machine
than the notebook with a better network connection (100Mb wired vs. 54Mb
wireless).
I tried Thunderbird for a while before 7 was released to see if I liked it
or not, and was not impressed with it. There were a few things that I wanted
to do in customization, and couldn't seem to get it the way I wanted it.
Forum support was terrible (I know, I know, it's a forum), and Thunderbird's
on-line help wasn't much help.
I also installed Outlook 2003 and got MapiLab's newsreader plug-in for it. I
had used Outlook for years at work and was comfortable with it, and the
newsreader plug-in was OK, but I still missed OE and it's ease of use.
I installed WLM on my Win7 notebook, and have been using it since, and am
very happy with it.

Of course, these are just my experiences and opinions. Other's may vary, and
you have the right to disagree.
