What ever happened to WinFS, is W7 still using the same old NTFS file system? I thought Vista was supposed to come with a brand spanking new way of storing files, but it never happened?

I remember hearing about it just after XP was released, so it's been in progress for many years now.

Windows 7 is using NTFS, and WinFS as been rolled into MSSQL. WinFS is still slated for inclusion in Windows, but only "eventually" according to Steve Ballmer.

Crazy. We've been waiting for this for ages, so I hope it delivers some worthwhile benefits when it is finally released.

There must be a good reason why it hasn't been deployed as a file system already, I just why they would say.
