Windows 7 Build 7100 x64 installed on a Dell 490 Workstation.

Network Icon in systray says no connection, BUT I have internet. I loose connectivity from time to time, but don't know if it's related.

A Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller is installed.

Network Firewall issue?

Any ideas?

If you temporarily disable your firewall does it make any difference?

Do you know the exact model of your network adapter as then I can find the driver you'll need for a manual install. I guess Windows 7 autodetected it? It will probably be one of the ones from this page:

I've just looked your system up on the Dell support pages (here) and it looks like you may have the 5721C which has 64 bit drivers available on this page:

Try installing those and see if you have a little more luck

Ok I have a Asus M4n78 Pro and its onboard network controller would not validate the ip adress and not give internet connection, result of hours of clusterfraging it and calling tech support that dont know thier butt from a hole in the gorund resulted in finding out that some 64 bit boards and gigabite ethernet nics are not compatible using W7 64bit OS

Result use a 10/100 ethernet nic till people and isp's jump on the W7 combatibility train

Implode, it is like explodeing but backwards..........

That did it. Windows 7 wanted to keep the old driver, but once I did the manual install it took. Thanks again.
