NFS Shift dodgy sound?

On Need for Speed shift the sound is really weird. When you're at the start line the revs sound like a strangled cat and just turn into beeps at high revs. Is the a very weird RX-8, poor sound on the game or a bad chip set sound card?

Does it work fine in all other applications?

There was a patch for NFS:Shift released about a month ago, and this might fix the issue for it:

Yeah sound works fine in all other apps.

And I've got that patch and the other one they released.

Are you able to change any of the audio settings in-game? Sometimes you can choose a method of audio hardware acceleration, which may be causing this. You could also try running the game in compatibility mode (although I doubt that would help in this instance).

I'm out of other ideas unfortunately, as I've not played that game before.
