Having recently started using Windows 7 and giving up on the useless
Live Mail, I am fairly satisfied with Thunderbird. Is there a better
group than this to find out about and discuss news and mail readers,
especially free ones?

Although it is no longer supported, 40tude dialog is still a damn good one.

Many people prefer xnews.

Then there is xananews which has a few more features.

Hi James,

I, also, gave up on WLM. Initially, I changed to Forte Agent, but
didn't find it a good choice. I am now using XanaNews and really like
it. It is free and very similar to Outlook Express.

I tried Thunderbird and didn't find it a good choice for me. Other
users seem to really like it, however.

Now, to answer your question; this is as good a place as any to post
questions regarding newsreaders, as far as I am concerned.

It is on eternal-september, maybe you need to refresh the list?
There's a fair amount of activity.

I would suggest you try X-news. It is a proper newsreader and handles
all posts. I too couldn't stand LiveMail so I got to grips with
Thunderbird but I wasted hours on it as it can't handle multi-part files
and it doesn't recognise Y-enc either.

Here's a copy...........

Had to give the professional whiners something else to cry about. After
all why else would they get out of bed in the morning?
I have also been looking for someplace to ask about help with T-Bird but
figured if I did that here I would get a lot of “T-bird sucks, use my
reader” along with a lot of “ this is not the place to ask that”, often
coming from the same person.
So I decided to try the XanaNews since it was said to be more like OE,
which is what I know best. It seems to have no trouble talking to my
feed so I tried one response. My name never changes even though I am
using 3 news readers now, so I am sure someone can teach you how to
filter me, or point you to a reader that will allow this if I make life
hard for you.
