This is an ineteresting new security weapon from Microsoft. Most useful on a first install, but can be used with new software.

Corrected link for 32 and 64Bit..

Nice. I'll give it a try.

Thanks Dave

I downloaded it yesterday. It doesn't really appear to do anything for Windows 7.

I have only just encountered it. But I only use Windows 7. It seems to do as promised, but I am still investigating. I think I need to download and install a very dubious third party program in order to give it a proper workout.

Later. Just did a littlemore research. The original Link I gave was for the 64Bit release. I have ameneded the link for both downloads.

Yeah, it scanned my computer in a few minutes and everything was ok. I've got a feeling it's more for XP rather than Vista or 7.

I had problems with it on Windows 7 Pro (64 bit). It like, froze. Then there was the familiar Windows warning that it had stopped working, and would seek a solution.

I guess I'll give it shot on XP, and see how it does there.

I believe this is mostly for developers and IT people.

I'm staying away from it.

I agree

Without fully understanding its function or purpose, I might as well break my system on purpose.

Well. I think this is for a higher breed of users than me. I cannot find any practical use for it, in my operation, so I have uninstalled it again.

If you run this tool once all it does is create a cab file as a baseline to compare to. After you install software you run it again and it looks for possible weaknesses which could make the system more vulnerable, essentially it tells you what has been changed (changed or newly added files, registry keys, services, ActiveX Controls, listening ports, Access Control Lists and other parameters).

Source

I like the idea of knowing exactly what reg changes were made when software is installed.
