http://www.zdnet.com/blog/security/n...83?tag=nl.e589 This link is about a new flaw in all versions of Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat. This article was posted by Zdnet today and Adobe doesn't have a fix or workaround for it. The above link goes to Zdnet's article on it.

The biggest flaw with Adobe is flash. It frequently locks up my browser, can't refresh or even hit the close X. I wish some smart person would develop Flash-Alternative.

But thank you for more good news from Adobe

There's a Flash alternative on Linux.

I don't see the point of a Flash alternative. Emulating a proprietary format is never going to produce results that compare to the original in terms of functionality and performance. And frankly, the open source community would have to make a considerable mess of the Linux kernel for it to be considered a "Windows alternative."

What I would like to see is not the development of open source versions of proprietary technologies, but the eradication of proprietary technologies entirely from general website implementations. It's 2010 and I still see websites designed entirely for IE, or entirely in Flash, and I have to wonder who hired the morons that developed them. I won't even use any site that insists I install Java. Hopefully HTML5 will help in this regard, even if it is a long ways off.

Real Alternative and Quicktime Alternative are excellent examples of non-bloated mimics of the original that function quite well w/o the problems of the originals.

Both are also discontinued, so future use is in my opinion quite questionable. At any rate, Quicktime has always worked fine for me. I won't touch RealMedia or anything that emulates it...it can stay dead as far as I am concerned.

I quit using Adobe for PDF functions several months ago. I prefer to use either Nitro PDF or Foxit PDF, much smaller footprints and just as configurable as Adobe for most users.

Nibs it says Foxit is vulnerable too, and is even more dangerous as it won't even show you a screen you have to OK. I would guess Nitro is susceptible as well because it is apparently a weakness in the actual PDF design.
