Networked printer troubles

Im the only one using Win7 in the house and trying to setup a networked printer
hooked to a XP machine. Do you know why I may not be able to setup the HP Laser 6P/6MP through the network. I have a connection to the files but get an error telling me I dont have permission. Ive never had this error before. It started after build 7000 if Im not mistaken. I think it setup on 7000 but not 7068 or 7100
