I'm in Windows 7 home premium 64 bit and created a logical partition on
my NTFS HD. When I copy a file to this partition, I get a popup saying I
need administrative permission to write to it. I say "continue" and it
writes the file.

How do change things so I do not need to be asked for permission to
write to this partition?

Thank you.

Everybody bangs their head against the Win7 default settings for
Security before too long.
Look at two things;
Right click drive/ Properties/ Security /Permissions for users

Also Action Centre/ User Account Control.

Select "Properties" in the context menu for the partition. Open the
"Security" tab. Click on the "Edit" button. Highlight "Users" in the
"Group or user names" window. Check the desired permissions and click on
the "OK" button.

Thank you both. That did it.

Hi, Jeff.

Win7 considers several areas to be "protected zones" and will not let us
write to them - unless we exercise our Administrator credentials and INSIST!
Ed and Crash told you how to do that.

The Root of any partition is one of those protected zones, much like Program
Files. We cannot (easily) save a file in X:\. But we can easily create a
New Folder (X:\Something), and then store our files in that folder.

The partition - or logical drive - is not protected, but its Root directory
is.
