MMC.exe application replacement

I am wondering if I can replace this application with one from
another Win7 system. When I try to access Event Viewer(MMC.exe) will
not run and may be corrupt.

I am convinced that MS Windows update has once again screwed up
another system. Ya. I know all you guys that say it just ain't gonna
happen and I shouldn't blame MS. It will take a lot of convincing
that this just isn't happening. Everything was running fine until I
let Windows Update have it's way with me now I am screwed in so many
ways.

Event Viewer won't run.

Turn Windows features on and off box is empty. I have been reading
about this happening and seen an end to people trying to fix it. No
help found in old posts going back years.

..NET screwups seem to be rampant.

I have been able to get rid of popup about .NET by using MSCONFIG to
disable things but that is no fix. Just a simple workaround.

Now Windows 8? This is almost to funny if it weren't so much of a
PITA and just pathetic.

Some time ago I was trying to fix a machine that couldn't
create a task with task scheduler. I kept getting error
messages about the MMC snap-in having problems.
I managed to fix it with this tool:

http://www.thewindowsclub.com/repair...fixwin-utility

On the System Tools page there is an option to enable MMC Snap-ins.
(Your system might be too far gone for this to have any effect).

Another good reason to run one's browser with scripting turned off.

Ya. I know. I was in a hurry to catch a game on the tube. I got a
report from AVG and didn't follow up on it. It gave me an option to
view details about a threat, something I rarely see and that was the
link I posted. Sorry for rushing things. Today is game day and after
watching our PATS hand Tebow his butt we're a fanatics here in New
England.
I will check out your fix. Thanks.

Try running System File Checker from the command line:

In the 'run' box type: cmd
then Ctrl+Shift + Enter (this makes it run as administrator)

in command window type: sfc /scannow

No one ever said that.

or that.

But, how did the repair install go?

Why keep futzing around and wasting however much time if a
repair install can fix this for you.

(*If* you can do a repair install with whatever media the PC
came with.....not a "clean install", or a "factory restore".)

And if it's an OEM machine, with the OS in a partition of the HD,
hitting F8 on bootup will usually lead to a screen with the option of a
repair install.

You are right. I should have done that a long time ago. For some
reason I have no restore points. This is not a store bought system. It
came in pieces one at a time by UPS. I need to get off my butt and
crawl back under that desk and yank that sicker out of that hole next
to the others that work fine. I will most likely do it this weekend
when I actually have more than a few minutes in a row. Actually I
should just move my newsreader to another box and let this old beast
collect dust like any normal system on it's vintage.

I actually have never done a repair install on Win7. I will end up
replacing the drive with a clone from a month ago or so.
