How do I move Outlook mail from XP to Win7?
I used the Easy Transfer program but it didn't move the .pst files.

Microsoft Easy Transfer should copy the information to the right directories.

Thought of doing it manually?

You can move the files manually but because W7 changed where many folders are stored compared to XP, you will need to look up the directory structure changes to insure it's placement where it is expected to be.

Since Easy Transfer didn't move my .pst files I'm looking at Fire Cat's
suggestion to manually move the old mail data to win7.
When I tried to look at Documents and Settings to see where Outlook files
are located, the folder was locked and I got a 'Access denied' message even though I'm the administrator.
Can anyone instruct me on how to do the move manually?

Put your pst file here and then in Microsoft Outlook File - Import and Export.
C:\Users\<USERID>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\mailbox.pst

For access to the directory, download and install the TakeOwnership script and run it against folder C:\Users\<USERID>

TrainableMan,
I successfully moved my old Outlook mail from Xp to Win7 by using
the second part of your suggested solution as follows.

- Had each XP user's old .pst files backed up on an external hard drive.
- Opened mail accounts for each user in Win7.
- Opened Outlook for a user, went to:
File>Open>Import
- Choose Import from another file or program in the Import Wizard menue.
- Choose Outlook Data (.pst) from the Import menue.
- Browsed the .pst file to be imported from my backed up drive.
- Proceeded to import the user .pst I had opened to the proper account.
The import process worked. It not only brought all my old mail folders
but the contacts, calendar etc as well.
I didn't have to use the TakeOwnership but I think that would work also.
Thanks for your help----gcucak

Windows protects some folders as "system" so I wasn't sure if you could get there or not. It sounds like you are all set - glad you got it working
