Hi All,

I guess this is one of those annoying microsoft tricks. Whenever I try
to delete a couple of microsoft folders from my favourites in IE8 (Win
7), they 'magically' reappear the next time I start up IE, in the
following form ...

Windows Live!33a0_29!erased!1da4_29!erased
Microsoft Websites!3350_29!erased!180_29!erased

Any ideas how I can get rid of these from my favourites for good?

Kev

I have neither of those because I deleted them long ago, and they
never returned. I have no idea why you can't get rid of them, but it is
not typical of IE 8/Windows 7.

1/ I don't like Firefox, Chrome, Seamonkey or Opera.
2/ I use Roboform, which will not run on IE9 64 bit, and my machine
refuses to instal IE9 32 bit

Upgraded to IE9 32 bit (having found out how to), and disabled the
spybot search and destroy add on - seems to have solved the problem
somewhere along the line.

Are you sure about #2, specifically the "refuses to install" part?

Never mind. I see that you figured it out.

Well done Kev.

I would be interested to learn how you upgraded to IE9 32 bit because I
also run a 64 bit computer and have IE9 64 bit installed.

I have Opera Next as default browser with the current version also
installed for me to fall back on.
Also K-Meleon installed for pages that won't allow me to use Opera.

The 32-bit version installs along with the 64-bit version. Click Start/All
Programs/Internet Explorer. NOT.../Internet Explorer(64-bit), which is
right above it.

Many reasons to use IE8. People that get fooled into having to use
dumbed-down browsers are usually just too lazy to see WHAT their apps are
doing. I haven't had a problem in years, all the way back to 6, as a matter
of fact. The only "problem" was a key logger I stupidly downloaded on my
own.
I give no finite details because you didn't.

I agree; but taking control over the files is probably still possible.
Normal methods. Add yourself to the owner's of those files & then delete
them.
