Just started using win 7, home premium.

No file extentions seem to show, and I can't find the
little box to click "show extentions". On xp I have it in
the Folder Options applet of the control panel. Where is it
in W7? Thanks...

The OP is probably confused by the decision MS made to default the folder
options to hide the menu bar.

Open any folder in the system, and with that folder active hit the ALT key.
The menu bar will appear; select TOOLS -> FOLDER OPTIONS, click the VIEW
tab, and in that dialog uncheck the option "Hide extensions for known file
types". (In the same dialog you have the option to select "Always show
menus".)

Folder Options is in Control Panel in Win 7 too. Click the round
start button and type Folder Options.

You might not be aware of a big problem with your quoting style.
The way your newsreader is doing it, when someone else follows
up, it looks like you *said* what you actually only quoted.

The problem is that Windows Live Mail 2011 (version 15) has a
quoting style that is completely broken. Unfortunately that poses
a painful choice to you: either fix every quote manually, or get
a real newsreader such as Gravity, Xananews, and Forte Agent (to
mention some that come to mind at the moment). OR, if you really
want WLM, some say that WLM 14 will serve; see "SC Tom" below.

update 2011-04-02: I've seen a newsgroup posting claiming you
can un-break WLM 15 by installing and using an Autohotkey script:

Thanks for your consideration!

FWIW, the term you wanted is "goldmine of information". BIG difference
between what a "goldmine" means vs. what "minefield" means.

Oh, I dunno. A bunch of tech tips and hacks in the hands of an
inexperienced user could be a minefield of information.

Thanks to all, especially for the suggested sites.
I think I can get familiar with W7 now. A BIG step forward
was setting my default IE home page to a familiar one. It
came with a Toshiba home page default which almost exploded
in my face with numerous flashy ads and absolutely nothing
that remotely resembled my old IE.

That threw me off course.
