Lost internet

I am writing from my xP hardrive so I no my cable modem and router aren't at fault. I tried everyrhing I could think of short of a fresh install, I did the power ipconfig rlease powerdown computer router modem routin which didn't help. My modem has a vist x64 driver but it wouldn't load it. I am at a loss but a fresh install will set me back about a weeks worth of work, looking for suggestion.

Can you explain how your network is set up please. I guess you have a cable modem conntected to a router, but is your PC is connected via a LAN cable or wirelessly to the router?

Did the connection work at any point with Windows 7?
