Live Mail colour options - do they actually work?

I'm slowly getting used to Live Mail but I'm still puzzled by that
paintbrush icon in the toolbar. Clicking on it and then selecting "more
colours" brings up an extensive palette including some rich, dark colours
which are a welcome contrast to the default and impractical wishy-washy
pastels - but what exactly do you do with them? Is there a way of changing
the basic look of the program that I simply haven't found yet?

Many thanks.

Bert

They work, they're just not dark like one would expect when picking them.
You might try microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop and see if anyone
there has any idea how to make the colors darker and more visible (I've had
no luck changing the colors to anything but bleached).

Thanks for the reply, but I can get no response at all from selecting any of
the colours in the "more colours" palette. I don't get a change to a
lighter or more washed-out version of the swatch I select - I get no
alteration whatsoever.

Clicking on one of the colours in the first palette *does* produce a change,
but it's the second lot of colours that I'd like to choose from.

Thanks, I'll take a look there.

I get a change, but it is real hard to tell the difference in colors. I even
tried Classic Windows, and every other window like Windows Explorer and IE
changed to the Win95-like look, but WLM still remains the same wash-out,
over-bleached look.

I had to erase and redo my rule for this a few times for it to work.
Don't know why MS decided to make this software less useful and
configurable than OE.....

Have you tried checking the "Stop processing more rules" box also?
Some people seem to have a problem with rules engaging unless that box is
checked.

OH! Thank you very much! I shall give that try.

No I haven't seen that! Sounds rather counter intuitive though eh?)

I shall try that forthwith Thank you!

It does seem like a distinct backwards step, doesn't it? And having
features (like the darker colours) which are present but which don't work
strikes me as worse than not having them there in the first place.
