Linux to Windows 7

I recently wanted to go from Ubuntu to Windows 7 but it requires a driver to be installed. I cant seem to find a download

Anyone know where i can find one that will work

You don't need a driver to install Windows 7. Are you trying to install from Linux?

It's best to do a clean install and boot Windows 7 install disc from the DVD drive as the first bootable device selected in the BIOS.

Yes I am going from Linux to Windows seven and now it asking for a driver to allow the install.

I am installing it by booting from the CD. in the collecting information sector of the download it stops me to download a driver to allow windows to install because a previous driver wasnt found.

It sounds like you need to wipe the hard drive clean before you can begin the install. Something, maybe Linux is confusing the install process.

Go here to download Partition Wizard's Bootable CD program. It's free and works very well.

It's an ISO image, so you'll need to burn it to a CD using an ISO image burning software such as ImgBurn which is free also.

Then boot up the computer and use Partition Wizard to wipe out the old partitions on the hard and re-format it to NTFS file system.

Could it be that he is installing with upgrade media & he's already formatted over the previous version of Windows that was there (Vista or XP)? That info would be gone, wouldn't it?

That's why I suggested that he use Partition Wizard to clean all the stuff off and have another go at it.

jraju2489 I noticed you said something about download, did you mean the install process? And are you installing windows using the upgrade option or the clean install?

The upgrade option will not work. Ubuntu and all Linux based OS's use a different format for you hard drive, when you try to install Windows, it will not find the proper format it needs to install over Ubuntu. So, to install Windows 7 you must load it at boot, and choose to do a clean install. Remember to back up all data before doing a clean install, as everything will be "wiped clean" from your hard drive.

This is why you got a message about the drive, not a driver. Windows just needs to format the drive so it can be installed. Formatting just sets up the drive for the filing and indexing of data used by the OS to function. Like I said, Linux uses a different format then Windows.
