I've heard of some weird nominations for prizes before, but Linus Torvalds for Nobel Peace Prize? Come on, this can't be for real. You can read it for yourself at http://www.osnews.com/comments/22514 . I thought that was supposed to be an award for doing something good for all humanity, not for computing experts. I just stumbled across the article and still can't believe it.

I'm sure he won't end up getting one - for although he has developed + kick started a fantastic project, it's not really releated to world peace .

There are 1/2 million people in a Facebook group for Jeremry Clarkson (from Top Gear) to be Prime Ministe... and I'm sure that won't happen either It would probably be funny for 24h though

If Linus deserves this nomination, then Bill Gates should be in the lineup as well. He's done a thousand times more that Linus has. Look at the sheer number of Windows users (over 90%). Linus doesn't come close. Yes, he stood for getting the net all over the world for everyone to use, even those in poverty. I respect that, but that in itself doesn't qualify him for the Nobel. I think he's up to his tricks again, trying to steer Windows users to Linux "distros", as they are called. Windows is and will always be the #1 OS supplier in the world. The release of Windows 7 cemented that position for them. And as far as Apple is concerned, they probably make excellent computers (look at the price), but for the most part, it's a status symbol. Like driving a Lexus is. They are no threat to Windows, either. I've never had a Mac and don't want one. If one was given to me, I'd turn around and sell it on eBay and buy myself a really nice Windows 7 based laptop, and a all in one wireless printer.
