I have used Lime music notation software for years and really like it. It runs under Vista, but it does not seem to run under Windows 7. Any help would be most appreciated.

I assume you tried to install it? Did you get an error on installation?
Or just when you try to run it? What error do you get?

I'm not familiar with the software at all but I went ahead and installed it on my 64-bit system. Are you running 32-bit or 64-bit Home Premium?

I can run a 30 day trial and it lets me play some notes and I can save a .lim file but I don't know how to get it to play back what I did (I click Hear but get nothing). I also installed it on XP with the same results. So unless you can explain how I am to use it I don't see any issues.

I installed it ... got the message that it MAY not have installed correctly. When I try to run it anyway, it will not run correctly (see below). I then tried all variations using the Windows 7 compatibility feature. It still will not run correctly.

Using 64 bit Windows home premium: When I open previous files I have made with the program under Vista, you cannot see any of the notes. When I try to create a new piece of music, you cannot see any of the notes. In fact, you cannot even see the piano keyboard which is used to input notes.

Using 32 bit Windows starter, it does not save files, although it gives no error messages.

I am open to suggestions.

... Grady

I have gotten it to play my music and save it. I believe the problems you are having are related to W7 User Account Control (which I disable) and possibly ownership (which I have taken ownership of all my folders).

Part of the issue is that the installer says puts everything in programs if you follow the instructions: \Program Files\ (and actually for 64-bit you should really use \Program Files (x86)\) but W7 actually is designed to have INI files, etc in personal directories so each user has their own settings.

OK the warning it may not have installed correctly is normal basically because it doesn't provide info to W7 that it worked (no uninstall info created, etc). You can verify it installed by looking for the Lime folder and it should have:
Lime.exe
LimeManual900.pdf
FirstPiece.Lim
MARL.TTF
TUFA.TTF
Examples (Folder with 8 items)
Stationary (Folder with 32 items)

So where did you install it on both your systems? And are all the files there?

I suggest you try downloading and installing "Take Ownership". Then find the lime folder in Windows Explorer, right-click, and select Take Ownership.

If that doesn't solve the issue then right-click on Lime.exe and in compatibility check "Run as Administrator".
