Obviously I will let you all know how things work out, but just as obviously I will not be able to let you know if Windows 7 runs more smoothly with the 2GB of RAM. After all, I have never experienced running 7 on 1GB and I expect 7 will run smoother than Vista anyway.

I used to have only 1GB on my spec machine. I do everything you can with a pc...latest games, heavy 1080p and other video encoding/production, DVD Authoring, audio tracking and production, crash dump analysis, adventurous networking lol...whatever.

Honestly, I technically know it is better now with 2 GB but as for the feel and usage of the pc, there is no obvious difference at all.

I also have a 2001 P4 machine with 768 MB RDRAM....it could use more memory, sure, but it runs excellent on 7 for what it is. The machine is perfect for my family and what they do...web browsing, e-mail, YouTube videos and the like.

Both 32 bit.

And I also have a newer Acer Aspire netbook which runs very well with 1 GB RAM and does everything (besides latest games of course, due to Intel video, but it does play HD content.)
