Issues with VLC

When i watch movies in VLC the sound 'sparkles' and the video lags..
this does not happen when watching videos on Youtube, and other flash-players tho..

anyone got any idea of why this is happening?

i am guessing that it could be a nother issue i am having with the harddisk, it seems to be working all the time..
