Do these sort of programs (System Mechanic) make a difference to your PC speed, or does it just bundle lots of tools into a friendly package? I use degrag, scan disk and ccleaner, and they seem to do a good job, but I haven't tried any of the other tools before so I wouldn't know if I am missing out.

Well, I've used SM Pro for a few years now. Yes, it is a bunch of useful tools and with the Pro version you also get a Virus Checker and Firewall.
Mainly I use it to keep on top of the Registry, to clean up the HDD clutter, to clean up the temp files & folders & to keep on top of 'security'!
I've dropped all the other bits and pieces I had apart from CounterSpy and SM.
