Installing Win 7 64bit over Win 7 32bit.

It may just be that you need to format the HD first or your laptop may only have a 32-bit processor, in which case it cannot run a 64-bit OS. If you tell us the model number we might be able to find some more information.

Also how much RAM does it have?

Before formatting or installing, make sure you have first backed up all your settings and data to an external drive or disks. The easiest way to do this is with the Windows Easy Transfer (WET) utility.

If it turns out your laptop will not support 64-bit, note that you can download 32-bit Home Premium and install it using the key that came with your new 64-bit disk.

Thanks TrainableMan...my laptop supports 64 bit os ...vaio vpceb22en....3 gig ram...core i3-380 m processor...please help..

My suggestion is to make sure you have it all backed up and then format the hard drive. Then boot to your install DVD. Hopefully that works.

u cant upgrade to 32 bitversion to 64 version.if ur laptop cpu is 32 bit then u cant.u have to check first then if it is 64 bit processor then u can after formatting ur drive u can.....

Read the posts. He has already checked and confirmed it! is 64 bit capable.
