I seem to recall there is a default limit to download size that can be
changed in IE. Can anyone point me to it? I've looked through the Tools >
Options and can't find it.

Thanks in advance.

I don't believe there is any such limit. You can download files of any
size.

Hi, jkneese.

There may be a limit imposed by your ISP, and you might run out of hard disk
space. But I don't believe there is any size limit on downloads in IE.
I've often downloaded beta builds of Vista and Win7 that ran several GB
each.

Especially on these big downloads, though, it sure does help to have a
download manager installed, just in case of a power failure or other
interruption in the middle of a download, so that it can be resumed, rather
than restarted from scratch. In IE9, see Help | Use Download Manager.

The only limit I know of, is if the destination directory is on a
FAT32 partition. FAT32 has a 4GB max file size. I had one DVD sized
download stop once, because I forgot about that.

Windows 7 installs on an NTFS partition, and if that's where your
download is placed, then there is no practical limit to the download
size.

A remote possibility, is for an account to have "disk quotas" applied
to it, and perhaps then, a user could experience an "out of space" error
before the disk is actually full. Imposing a quota, is a way to manage
sharing of storage resources. Generally, there's no reason for setting
up a quota on a non-corporate home computer.

The only limits I know of are the maximum number of simultaneous
downloads. No download file size limit exists in IE. That may be
being imposed by your ISP.
This is how to increase the number of simultaneous downloads:
