I have an MS excel document for which I have a shortcut on my desktop. It will only appear as a thumbnail. If I change the folder view preference to "icon" for that folder, ALL my folders on the PC change to this, while I only wish the one File to change. Other files in the folder do show as Icons - for example all my Word files shortcuts show an icon. Any suggestions?

Other excel file shortcuts in other folders appear with the Excel Icon.

Hi johnnyb and welcome

Try making the shortcut within excel then put excel to one side (Windows + Arrow Key) and drag the shortcut to your desktop.

Thanks to Veedaz for your reply. While following your suggestion I noticed a small tick box when trying to save the file - it said "Thumbnail"!

I cleared this and all is well now - thanks for your time and trouble.
