I know how to pin programs to the taskbar. But is there a way to reduce
the wasted blank space between each pinned icon?

Thanks, Jeff

You could use a different theme. The icons are closer together with the
Windows Classic theme, which I use. This shows a comparison between the
default Windows 7 Aero theme and the Windows Classic theme:

Is that with the icons in a Quick Launch toolbar or just pinned to a
taskbar which is using a Classic theme? I ask only because I'm using a
Quick Launch toolbar and the icons are even closer together.

That is just pinned icons. I don't use Quick Launch, but I do use a
custom toolbar, and icons are closer with that. I suspect they are the
same as what you are seeing with Quick Launch. The spacing is the same
with either theme. See modified demo:

Note for future readers: Usenet may be forever, but my personal web
postings are not. The directory is named "/temp/" for a reason. The stuff
I post there now will likely be gone in a month or too.

Control Panel\Display\Display Properties\Appearance\Advanced\Item\ Icon Spacing
Horizontal and select and set size to 18 and hit Apply

I can't find that in Windows 7. I see that you are posting with Outlook
Express, which means you are running Windows XP or earlier. Also,
does that apply to the taskbar, or to the desktop?

That's definitely XP. I had a ball playing with all those settings when
I first got XP. "Tweakability" we used to call it.

I never ran XP. I had a long and happy marriage to Windows 2000 and
miss it still. I went directly from that to Windows 7, which I am slowly
learning to tolerate. :-(

No it is not XP or anything earlier that I am using.. It is a bit higher than XP and
or Vista. Then try and right click on your desktop and select Properties. Where does
that take you
