Help changeing resolution in bootcamp vga to mini dvi

can some1 plz help me im running w7 x64 on my macbook pro 2009 unibody its the 2.8ghz with 512 nvidia graphics cpu. thing is im trying and have been for ages now to get the correct resolution on my hd tv 1080p i have a vga cable going into a mini dvi as there is no vga input on the loptop but its not giveing me the proper resolution and everything on my tv is very big any help out there ppl thank u in advance
