What's with the posts yesterday about it's ending on the 14th? It seems
still to be there and running.

They've probably shut down the team that were supporting it, and moved
them elsewhere. You can still download and install the latest version of
the program. Why should they remove that?

Because "They've probably shut down the team that were supporting it"?

Google Desktop has been made pretty unnecessary in Vista & Win7. Ok, it
was a bonus in XP, as were others like Copernic Search. But the recent
Windows have their own in situ.

What do you want Google to do? Make it unavailble for download?
Maybe they could remove it also from every computer which has it
installed. They seem to be so good at spying over us all that they might
be capable of doing that.
;-)

I am using Windows 7 and I do find Google Desktop useful. The continuous
market quotations, the search, the analog clock, News, the Scratch Pad
and the very local weather are well worth having.

Are the market quotes, news and weather still working?

Yes, and as up to date as they ever were. The News has always been a bit
pitiful in that it references some sources that require registration.
