Getting taskbar to STAY HIDDEN

Windows 7 home "premium" 64 bit. I have the taskbar set to "Auto Hide"
and "Locked", yet the infuriating thing is CONSTANTLY popping up,
apparently to "tell me something". And that THING is almost never
obvious, let alone important. So I end up closing apps one after
another, until the bloody taskbar HIDES again. For some reason, Chrome
seems especially inclined to make the bar pop up, though again, it's
NEVER for some actual REASON (it will be just "sitting there" on Google,
the home page). I ONLY want the bar to appear if I hover over it, or
hit the window key. And NEVER at any other time. Is this doable?

TIA

Dan

If you lock it, then it's going to stay shown. The only thing you want
to do is 'hide' only. The taskbar will show when you drag the mouse
pointer to it.

Thanks for the reply. The lock feature only keeps the taskbar from
being resized or moved to another part of the window, it doesn't effect
hiding. The bar does hide, it just keeps popping up periodically in
response to some indiscernible activity in an app.\

It is what it is and you can't stop it.

You may be right. If so, what it is, is badly designed.

Of COURSE you can do that. At a command prompt navigate to the folder
and type "dir>folder.txt" (without the quotes). That produces a text
file containing the folder's contents which you then print.

Never been the case in ANY version of Windows that you can hide the
taskbar permanently.

I have the opposite problem and want to see all icons on the
status bar as I find them very useful. It's annoying that
'hide inactive icons' somehow keeps re-ticking itself every
now and again.

Sure you can. Assuming the task bar is at the default position at the bottom
of the screen, move your cursor to the top edge of it until it changes to a
double headed arrow, left-click and drag it down. It will not show again
until you drag it back up :-)

It's been that way since NT 3.5. Sorry, it's mach ado about nothing.
