A test for Google's indexing speed.

I thought Google doesn't index this group. Has that changed?

I have no idea. I only did a search of Ed's subject line and it found ~8400 hits, but not this article, so you're
probably correct.

About two hours later than SC Tom's report, I just checked Google,
Yahoo, Bing, and Ask. I delimited the target phrase with quotes, and all
four search engines found nothing. Without quotes I got lots of
unrelated hits.

My FF is set up so it's easy to switch search engines with a drop-down
list in the search box, so it seemed reasonable to try the four.

Here's what I get with Google-UK right now at 3-00pm.
http://tinyurl.com/66446y4

8 hits including Aussies Phorums (Excellent. Them there Aussies should
read a bit more from the Mother Country!).

I don't know how long it took because I posted the original at 10-30pm
last night, checked after half an hour (nothing found), went to get my
beauty sleep, and have been out and about all today until now (which is
about 16 hours later).

I suppose a lot of it depends on timing; when you post, when the Google
indexer does its stuff. I had a situation with another NG a couple of
months ago, and the question arose about propagation onto other
news-servers. I was checking Google Groups about ten minutes after
posting and I found my posting already appearing under a general search.

If I put it in quotes, I also get the 8 hits you got, here in the US. Without quotes, the newsgroup hits are at the top
of the list, but there are 7,840 total hits :-)

There you are, assigning me homework again:-)

OK, I'll Google those to find out what they are...

I've heard of (but forgotten about) Dogpile. Mamma is new to me.

The Google search bar is not interested in adding Mamma or Dogpile to
its drop-down list. If I can't find a way to do it, I might just put the
shortcuts on the toolbar :-)
