I would keep to 8gig at 1066MHz ATM and see how it goes.

64bit use 8Gb @1066
32bit use 4Gb @1600 (because 32bit has a 4Gb memory limit)

Thanks kitesurfa but the size memory wasn't the question.
The frequency at which to run the ram is the question.

Running the 8GB may have a larger power consumption than using 4GB.
If this is the case then the voltages may need to be bumped up for the 8GB to run at 1600MHz.
This however will run the memory hotter than normal.

I know that when I bought my Kingston HyperX PC8500 1066 RAM it's SPD settings from the factory were PC6400 or 800MHz clock speed.

In order to achieve the higher clock speed, other than setting the multiplier different, I had to boost the DRAM voltage from the standard of 1.8 VDC to 2.1 VDC before it would run stable. Those were the settings recommended by Kingston.

So maybe checking the voltage setting would be a good idea too. Go to the RAM makers website and see what the recommended voltage settings are for the type of RAM you're using.
