Freeze issues

Recently built computer running Vista 32 bit. The system ran sweet with no issue at all. Upgraded to Win 7 64 bit using a clean install and I have noticed that the computer will freeze up. Example is I can go to control panel, select the power option tab with no problem. But whwn you select something to change such as create a power plan, the computer will freeze up, I can move the curser but I am unable to change anything. Don't really know what direction to go.

Did you run MS upgrade advisor before attempting the upgrade of OS. It will tell you if you have any hardware/software issues that would need to be addressed.

Win Advisor will start but nothing happens. I let it run for 30+ min. but it just sits there doing nothing. I installed Win7 64 just the same but it freezes up when you try and do things.
The computer was recently built with the following specs:
motherboard: Asus P8P67LE
Processor: i7 2600K 3.4Ghz
Memory: 16 gig 1333mhz
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 550
Sound Card: Asus Xonar DS 7.1 PCI
Storage: 2 ea. WD 1TB drives.

Computer screams with Vista 32 bit with no issues what so ever but with Win 64 bit with a clean install nothing but issues.

I am stumped.

Now that I think about it, I have an old Dell computer running XP and I tried upgrading it to win 7 and it did the same thing, so I put XP back on the machine. Is it possible that there might be something wrong with the Win 7 program? or is it something I am doing wrong?

Probably not you...more likely a hardware/software issue. Did you do a clean install or just do the upgrade? Generally speaking doing the upgrade (overlaying 7 on top of Vista) causes a lot of problems. A clean install of 7 requires a reformat of the hard drive which will erase all the data of Vista and any thing else you have on the hard drive. Save and back up all your pictures and documents you want then proceed wit the clean install.

With the new cpmputer I used a new hard drive and formatted it. with the old dell I did a clean install formatting the existing drive.

I know with my old vista HP desktop that I did both the upgrade and the clean install. But prior to doing that I ran the MS upgrade advisor and it pointed out a few drivers that need to be updated before I could do the upgrade. It also showed me that there was some software issues as well, either had to be updated or uninstalled and reinstalled after the upgrade. Once I did that I was one of the lucky few out there that didn't have any issues once I upgraded. Then later mobo/cpu failure and rebuilt the system and did a clean install.

Got so fed up, I formatted the drive and did a clean install. I then installed the drivers for all of my devices one at a time trying various windows functions while doing so. After installing the sound card drivers, the problems started. I uninstalled the drivers and the issue went away.

HP is best than other computer if you are living in freeze area then HP is best for your using.

Nice work...it's time consumming but in the end it's very satisfiying to know you found and fixed the issue yourself.

The sound driver in question is it the HP sound driver? Have you tried checking it there is an updated version of that driver? Go to the vendors website for the latest driver updates...not through HP. If it is a RealTek sound driver go to the realtek website.
