Flash Player Updates

Is it necessary to uninstall Adobe Flash and then reinstall the updated version, or will the update just install over the top of the existing Flash?

My Flash Player is 10.0.32 and I'm getting messages to update to 10.0.45.

No DD, you can just install right over the old version. It updates the existing files and there are no issues that I'm aware of.

Probably a good idea once in a while to run the flash uninstaller to clear out flash, reboot, then reinstall Flash, especially if performance degrades.

I've only had 64 bit for about a week or whatever, so does Flash run on the 64 bit IE yet? I guess I haven't tried or heard anybody say yet. I'm still running 32 bit IE.

No, Flash is not enabled yet for the IE 64 bit browser, or FF 64 bit either.

Supposedly Adobe is working on one, but they're dragging their feet on it.

They apparently have one for the Linux-based 64 bit browsers but no Windows-based yet.

That's why I'm looking forward to the HTML 5.

Me too, that way Adobe won't be holding the 64 bit browser hostage anymore. IE x64 has been out since XP 64 bit, and no flash yet.

Though, I would like to give a warning. You might get an update window for Flash, but it is much better to go to the adobe website and redownload the installer.
Basicly, clean install Flash, don't update it.

Adobe first installs DLM (thier DownLoad Manager). Never used to have to have the DLM but now if you unstall it, it will reinstall every time it wants to upgrade any Adobe product. Also, when you install Adobe Reader they have slipped Adobe Air into it and then if you don't want it you must uninstall that application.

I use Secunia PSI lets me know when things (eg) Java etc needs updating its a handy tool.

That's one of the reasons why I quit using Acrobat Reader. I don't WANT all this unnecessary junk on my system.

I use NitroPDF now, much smaller footprint on the hard drive and just as good, if not better in some aspects.
