I've been getting the following error message in Event Viewer during
every system shutdown or reboot:

"The server {AB8902B4-09CA-4BB6-B78D-A8F59079A8D5} did not register with
DCOM within the required timeout."

I found the following article about it:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...5-722c05324319

However it's solution doesn't seem to do much for me, which is to run
the "sfc /scannow" command, but this just returns everything is fine.

The GUID corresponds to a service in the Registry called "Thumbnail
Cache Out of Proc Server". Seeing as it only happens during shutdowns,
it seems that it might be able to benefit from an increased timeout
value, but I don't know where to put such a thing.

In this example, the root cause was a CODEC pack. The symptom isn't
exactly the same, but the same kind of error message resulted.

Hmm, interesting, that looks like it might be fun to debug.
