I would like to get me again Eset but not sure if its worth it to get
the Smart Security or just the Anti Virus.
Do i need another firewall than the one in Windows?
I used the Antivirus before and was very happy with the program.
Anyway, anyone using it or can tell me?

Thanks

We use it at my workplace, but as with any other AV, it doesn't catch
everything, nothing can that I have seen. Ya gota have the AV, and other
cleaners, but your Winders OS will never be totally secure no matter
what, contrary to zealot propaganda. However with very careful surfing
and extremely careful file downloading, I have rarely suffered an
infection. I have never installed a 3rd party firewall, just used the
Winders supplied one. It really doesn't matter how much security
software you have installed, what matters is how well YOU adopt security
practices in your emailing, surfing, file downloads, etc. period. Sadly
that still isn't enough for a Winders OS, so of course secure your
Winders OS to the balls.

Cheers

Just the Nod32 anti-virus, as far as I'm concerned.

The Windows one is fine.

I started having a lot of trouble when I was using Norton/Symentec AV
and Zone Alarm firewall.

When ESET was recommended to me, I decided to use the full Security
Suite (the combined AV plus Firewall) on the grounds that it ought to
eliminate the possibility of conflicts of interest which might occur
when using protection from different sources. I've been using ESET for
over five years, and never had any problems with it. [Obviously, I have
the Windows Security Centre normally disabled.]

Ok, that gives me some insight. I used Nod32 Antivirus for someyears.
Since i replaced XP for 7 i needed a new antivirus.
Right now i do have MS Essential and i don't surf to sites i don't
know.

I do run also openSUSE on my other harddrive. With Linux there isn't
much of an issue.
But Windows is just a problem no matter how new it is.

I used ESET NOD 32 for a number of years and no real issues with it. I
got a copy of Kaspersky with a netbook and switched to it for awhile.
I didn't like how it did things without my knowledge so I'm back to
ESET. For the firewall I use Comodo (freeware) and have never had a
problem in over 5 years.

I use Avira (new 12 out now) and Zone Alarm Free.

No issues

Avira AntiVir is a very good choice. ZoneAlarm isn't bad, but it's no
better than the built-in firewall that comes with Windows and is
completely unnecessary.

Unless the newest version of Eset has changed, there is one problem that
keeps me with an earlier version: You cannot schedule system scans for
times when your computer is suspended (S1 or S3 sleep). Eset does not
use the system scheduler so the best you can do is have the scheduled
scan run the next time the computer is awakened. Since that defeats the
idea of scanning when you are not using your computer, it's a pain in
the rear. (You have to schedule a do-nothing task that is wakened by the
OS so that Eset will run.) In my opinion, this silliness demotes Eset
from superb to mediocre.

To me, that's a very minor disadvantage. I don't schedule it at all. I
simply start it before I go to bed.
