I've got window 7 up and running all my stuff - lots of audio and video editing - the only issue is that when my WD My Book Studio Edition spins down after some time of inactivity, Windows looses the drive. I've searched through my BIOS for eSATA setting and there was no help there that I could find. Any advice would be helpful.

Check your power plan in the control panel.

I had the same problem and you won't ever fix it.. The only way i managed to fix it was by getting an freeagent extreme and it worked fine. Some builds before win 7 rtm 7600 it worked ok.. others i needed to go into power options and select an ultra long time for the hard disk turn off time and that would fix it if it was disappearing. but for me in the final rtm or what is almost the final works fine and i didn't have to adjust anything.

If the W7 power options can't control the WD drive, you may need to use this utility from WD to change the spindown options. It claims to work will most drives, but it's quite an old utility and I've not used it before.

You could also try updating the firmware to the latest version and see if that contains any improvements:

My old Maxtor Onetouch doesn't lose the drive letter after spindown, it just takes a few seconds to spool up again on access.

I'm not sure how Thrax could fix it personally
