I just got a new laptop with Windows 7. I have been using Outlook Express since I took up the bad addictive habit of computering...I'm too old for a lot of change but I don't know which email to install. It suggest Thunderbird...say's it the closest one to Outlook Express. Is there any validity to this ?

If your running windows 7 I'd suggest windows live essentials which gives you live mail. I swapped from outlook express over to it and never looked back. Also used to use Thunderbird but for Win7 I'd suggest their own live mail.

Honey, welcome to the forum! I had problems with Thunderbird, Windows Live has a full, free email suite. There's also extra's, such as a picture gallery & movie maker, messenger, family safety, toolbar & writer. That's as much as you can expect from a free service.

It should be available to you through Microsoft Update, an upgrade from Windows Update. On the Windows Update page, you see a link to get free software from Microsoft, this is where you'll find it. You'll have to agree to install Microsoft Update to get to it, then your update scanner will shortly show you the updates.

Make sure that all of your other updates are installed first, I don't know if MS update will find everything that Windows Update will.

Should you need further assistance, always feel free to post. This forum is a really good place to learn Windows 7, and there's plenty of friendly, qualified help here.

Best of Luck,
Cat

Here:

This is the "suite" But look at the install options. Maybe you don't need some of the non mail items.

I don't have the messenger, toolbar or family safety myself. I've never cared for IM, extra toolbars cluttering my screen, and don't have kids, so I don't need family safety.

But the rest, I have installed.

Tried Thunderbird and got rid of it in favour of Windows Live Mail, but I did not install the messenger.

I posted a reply last evening but apparently it didn't go through. I'm still learning.
It said "You guys are awesome! Thank you all for the insight...also thank you Cat for the welcome. Since Hurricane Katrina I've almost lost all my drive to play on the computer."

It sounds like I should try Windows Live first. I despise laptops but I thought if I got one I don't have to get up and check mail while the football games are on.
BTW, can you insert pictures or graphics in the body of the email? Add music to the stationary?

Honey
