Since when has IsoBuster ever added a toolbar or plug-in to any web
browser? Sounds more like you installed IsoBuster but chose the typical
installation or didn't bother to look at the screens and just kept
clicking through to complete the installation. That is, it looks like
you installed foistware included with their installer and THAT is the
toolbar you see in the web browser.

I just did a test install of IsoBuster in a virtual machine. I
downloaded it from *their* site. I deselected the "Suggest suitable
software for unsupported file formats" option during the install. Then
I'm presented with a screen to install the "IsoBuster Toolbar". Well,
that's just a rebranded version of the Ask Toolbar. If you don't
deselect this foistware during installation then YOU chose to install
it. It just another of the myriad of search toolbars that many programs
try to foist on their customers to earn revenue to compensate for their
free software (although any company that sells commercial software
should not be devolving to this adware tactic).
That's why IsoBuster is classified as adware because it promotes the
installation of non-required software.

http://www.softpedia.com/get/CD-DVD-...soBuster.shtml
License: Ad-supported
Reasons why this program is marked as ad-supported:
· Offers to download or install software or components (such as browser
toolbars) that the program does not require to fully function:
· Ask Toolbar included. However you can uncheck this at installation
· Attempts to change the homepage for web browsers installed on the
system
· Attempts to change the default search engine for web browsers
installed on the system

You actually have to WATCH the installer's screens and READ them to make
intelligent decisions about WHAT you are going to install. Selecting
the typical (blind) install or just clicking through means you get
whatever they want to dump on your host.

So now go check if the Ask Toolbar is listed in Add/Remove Programs.
The foistware changes over time. Could be it's the Bing Toolbar or some
other search engine toolbar, or it merely changes the default search
engine in the web browser. See if IsoBuster Toolbar is listed in
Add/Remove Programs, or if Conduit Engine is listed. Uninstalling
IsoBuster will NOT uninstall the foistware you chose to allow onto your
host during the installation. That foistware will have its own separate
entry in Add/Remove Programs. Start looking there for something you
don't want on your host.

Oops, for Win 7, that would be Programs (instead of Add/Remove Programs
applet) in Control Panel.

If you Google removing them, you'll find many pages giving
instructions. I'd try one after the other until successful.

It was because of these "additional" packages being installed,
that I actually began reading the EULAs I agree to when
installing s/w, a long time ago.

Thanks Unk but it didn't work for me.

My computer - Win 7 Home Edition - does not have what you wrote.

This was what I found:

C:\program files\smart file adviser\ followed by 5 possibilities

sfa.exe
sfa_inst.exe
unins000.dat
unins000.exe
and
unins000.msg

Nothing useful there.

At the moment babylon appears to be missing and Isobuster has returned
again to the web search tools.

No rush. With Win 7 it is Control Panel\All Control Panel
Items\Programs and Features. This last one has the list of progs.

Does that folder path even exist? It sounds like you uninstalled the
IsoBuster program but you have yet to uninstall the foistware that was
offered during the *install* and that you chose to include (i.e., the
IsoBuster Toolbar which could be the Ask, Bing, Google, or Yahoo toolbar
depending on which foistware that IsoBuster had rebranded in that
version of the installer) because you did not elect to NOT include the
foistware during the install of IsoBuster. You need to start looking
for "toolbar" programs to uninstall since they will have a separate
uninstaller from the IsoBuster program.

Thanks for your suggestions VLH :-)

Ask turned up again in the 'Programs and Features' of the Control Panel.
I dumped it from there but I don't know if it is hiding somewhere else.

That has been my problem. I was not aware that all that crap was hiding
in some useful prog that I had downloaded.

A few days ago I uninstalled isobuster from the search engine list on
Win Explorer. Now it is back again and the Manage Add-ons shows it. When
I right click on isobuster, a window opens and the following 3 items are
greyed out:

Set as default, Remove and Disable. The 'Search Suggestions' column
shows Not Available.

This seems to suggest that this pile of crap will be around for a while.

That sounds like a lot of work :-(

I'll be watching for such crap in the future.
