I have Windows 7.

I have hundreds of photos (*.jpgs) in numerous folders and subfolders.

To make organizing these photos faster, how can I change the view to
"extra large icons" in the root folder in a way that all its
subfolders are changed the same way. At present I have to change the
view of each individual folder.

Right-click your 'root' folder, select Properties. Click the Customize tab
and you will find it.

I've done this, but all that's in the "customize" tab is the "optimize
for pictures" and further down is "choose file" and "restore default"
and "change icon".
I need something to maintain the view "extra large icons" in the root
folder and all sub-folders.

Open Windows Explorer. Click on your C: drive, and under View, select Extra
Large Icons. Then go to Tools, Folder Options, click on the View tab, then
on Apply to Folders. This will make all folders on all drives the same.

That's probably more extra large icons than you want, but I don't know of
any way to selectively change the settings on individual folders without
going to each one and doing it. Maybe one of the third party shells or
customization toys? Don't know.

Here's another suggestion. Go to the root folder that you want to
change and set it's view to your liking. Next click on Organize and
then select Folder and search options. In the Folder Options windows
click on the view tab, then click on the Apply to Folders button. You
will then be asked if you want to apply this setting to all folders of
this type, click yes. This should change the view of all folders that
have been set to be optimized for Pictures to the same view.

On the Customize tab, don't you have the checkbox under 'optimize for
pictures', that says 'apply to subfolders'? Its just underneath it. The
other posts' suggestions will also work, but may change appearance
properties in other directory trees, which I don't think what I wrote will
do. I can't send a pic because I'm on an XP machine at work ATM.

That doesn't apply the 'extra large icons' to the subfolders, just the
'optimize for pictures' setting.

OIC, thought it would apply the entire view. Thanks
