[SOLVED] Disk Defragmenter missing Win7

When I go to Start and search for Disk Defragmenter it doesn't find it.
When I try to to start Dfrgui.exe in the run box I get "windows can't find it.
The attach is a reference to my actions.
Can any body offer an answer as to why I don't have this function?
I noticed there is a defrag.exe in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM 32 folder
But when I run it, nothing happens
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

It's easy to find, it's just done a little differently than before.

To get to the defragger, click on the Start button, and type in "disk defragmenter" in the search window at the bottom. "Disk Defragmenter" should appear at the top of the search results

It's an "okay" defragger program but I highly recommend using Raxco's PerfectDisk. In my opinion it's the best on the market. However you do have to pay for it.

Thanks for your response.
I did go to Start and enter Disk Defragmenter in the search field
but the name didn't show up at the top of the search window.
That's what I tried before.
I don't intend on using the the window's defrag but I'm concerned as to why it isn't there.
I am currently using free defraggler which seems to work OK.
I see defrag.exe in the Windows\32 folder but if I execute it, nothing happens.
All the research I've done so far indicates it should be there.
It' exasperating.

If the above steps do not help, you may try to run System File Checker (SFC scan). The System File Checker tool to determine whether the issue that you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows Vista, The System File Checker tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of the system files by using the correct versions.

To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
b. Right-click cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue
c. At the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow

When the scan is complete, verify if you can find the disk defragmenter is back on the computer. Access the link below to know more information about System File Checker tool

You do not say if it is a fresh install or a purchased computer with 7 already on. But, it is possible that the default service has been changed.
Type services.msc in the search bar. Scroll down to the "Disk Defragmenter", and make sure it is on automatic, or at least manual.
If it is shown as disabled, double click it and select automatic. - Apply.
You may need to reboot to get it working.

P.S. Defrag.exe, in System32, is a command prompt application . What you should have there, as mentioned in this thread, is dfrfgui.exe.

You could also try to run it from the right-click of your C: drive, Selecting Properties and Under the Tools Tab should be the Windows Defragmenter. If you get an error trying it this way, there is definately someting not working

Try this way,

Start Menu >> in the search box type this >> %windir%\system32\dfrgui.exe >> hit Enter.

Or,

Start Menu >> Command Prompt >> %windir%\system32\dfrgui.exe.


Or start the windows defragmenter from the Start Menu 'Accessories' folder.

I tried your suggestion and ran the cmd "sfc /scannow" as administrator.
It did find corupt files and repaired them (see attach) . I then ran the seearch for
Disk Defragmenter and nothing showed up.
When I tried to open CBS.log to see what SFC found, I got ACCESS DENIED.

To all the posters who offered advice to my Disk Defragmenter problem- my
profound thanks.
In perusing the several suggestions which seemed viable to solve my problem
I decided to try the steps suggested by Draceena which was:
"You could also try to run it from the right-click of your C: drive, Selecting Properties and Under the Tools Tab should be the Windows Defragmenter."
It was there and when I tried to invoke it, I got a message telling me it has been
customized by another program but gave me a button to fix it- which I did and
hallelujah, it worked. Thanks to all.
