ASUSTeK Notebook X73E
2.10 gigahertz Intel Core i3-2310M Processor
4GB Memory
Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1

It requires almost a minute for shut down. That doesn't seem long compared to others' shut downs but I find it annoying. I used a utility to list the running Services
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FBAgent.exe (ASUSTeK fast boot)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\ASUS\ATK PACKAGE\ATK HOTKEY\AsLdrSrv.exe (ASUS function keys)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\ASUS\ATK PACKAGE\ATKGFNEX\GFNEXSrv.exe (ASUS graphics driver)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\INTEL\INTEL(R) MANAGEMENT ENGINE COMPONENTS\LMS\LMS.exe (Intel(R) Management and Security Application Local Management Service)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\COMMON FILES\PURE NETWORKS SHARED\PLATFORM\nmsrvc.exe (Cisco Systems Pure Networks Platform Service)
?:\WMPNETWK.EXE (Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service) I can’t locate this file anywhere on my computer. I can find C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\Windows Media Player\en-US\WMPMediaSharing.dll.mui

The utility lists these Services I stopped quite some time before the slow shut down began—
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\ROXIO\BACKONTRACK\APP\SaibSVC.exe (Roxio recovery service)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\ROXIO\BACKONTRACK\APP\BService.exe (Roxio recovery service)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\GOOGLE\UPDATE\GOOGLEUPDATE.EXE (Google Update Service (gupdate))
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\GOOGLE\UPDATE\GOOGLEUPDATE.EXE (Google Update Service (gupdatem))
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\PCPITSTOP\PCPitstopScheduleService.exe (PCPitstop Scheduling)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\COMMON FILES\ROXIO SHARED\13.0\SHAREDCOM\RoxMediaDB13.exe (Roxio Media Db)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\COMMON FILES\ROXIO SHARED\13.0\SHAREDCOM\RoxWatch13.exe (Roxio Hard Drive Watcher 12)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\INTEL\INTEL(R) MANAGEMENT ENGINE COMPONENTS\UNS\UNS.exe (Intel(R) Management and Security Application User Notification Service)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\Windows Defender\svchost.exe MPSVC.dll (I couldn’t locate this file in the Windows Defender subdirectory)

The Utility lists these programs running at start-up—
C:\PROGRAM FILES\REALTEK\AUDIO\HDA\RAVBg64.exe (Realtek Semiconductor Audio Control)
?:\ETDCtrl.exe (ELanTech touchpad) I couldn’t locate this file.
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT SECURITY CLIENT\msseces.exe (Microsoft Security Essentials—I think)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\PCPITSTOP\DOWNLOAD NITRO\pcpitstop-nitro.exe (Download Nitro Utility)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\HISTORYKILL 2010\histkill.exe (Cookie eraser)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\CYBERLINK\LABELPRINT\MUITRANSFER\2.5 (CyberLink Corp., UpdateBPShortCut)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\CYBERLINK\POWER2GO\MUITRANSFER\6.0 (CyberLink Corp., UpdateP2GoShortCut)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\ASUS\ATK PACKAGE\ATKOSD2\ATKOSD2.exe (ASUS Hotkey and Function Key support)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\ASUS\ATK PACKAGE\ATK MEDIA\DMedia.exe (ASUS keyboard Multimedia Key support)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\ASUS\ATK PACKAGE\ATK HOTKEY\HControlUser.exe (ASUS Hotkey and Function Key support)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\ASUS\WIRELESS CONSOLE 3\wcourier.exe (ASUS Wireless Console control)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\PCPITSTOP\INFO CENTER\InfoCenter.exe (PC Pitstop Info Center)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\COMMON FILES\PURE NETWORKS SHARED\PLATFORM\nmctxth.exe (Cisco Systems Network Magic)

C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\BILLP STUDIOS\WINPATROL\WinPatrol.exe (WinPatrol Plus Express Boot)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\ASUS\ASUSVIBE\AsusVibeLauncher.exe (AsusVibe Application)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\MICROSOFT OFFICE\OFFICE14\ONENOTEM.EXE (Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 quick launcher)

The utility lists these startup programs I stopped quite some time before the slow shut down began—
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\AMICOSINGLUN\AmIcoSinglun64.exe (Easy Icon Maker)
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\igfxtray.exe (Intel graphics card Diagnostics)
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\igfxtray.exe (Intel graphics card Diagnostics, utility lists it twice)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\SYNCABLES\SYNCABLES DESKTOP\syncables.exe (Syncs files between computers)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\AMICOSINGLUN\ AmIcoSinglun64.exe (Easy Icon Maker, utility lists this twice)
C:\PROGRAMDATA\??????\SetWallpaper.cmd (I can’t locate this file anywhere on my computer)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\NUANCE\PDF READER\EREG\Ereg.ini (Nuance PDF Reader registration reminder)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\QUICKTIME\QTTask.exe (Launches QuickTime)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\REAL\REALPLAYER\UPDATE\realsched.exe (Reminds RealOne Player and other Real applications to update and the like)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\ROXIO 2011\ROXIO BURN\RoxioBurnLauncher.exe (Launches Roxio Burner when inserting discs)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\COMMON FILES\ROXIO SHARED\13.0\SHAREDCOM\RoxWatchTray13.exe (Roxio icon placer)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\COMMON FILES\APPLE\APPLE APPLICATION SUPPORT\APSDaemon.exe (I don’t know)
C:\WINDOWS\INSTALLER\{2B81872B-A054-48DA-BE3B-FA5C164C303A}\_94E3CE3704FE82FBF49A6A.exe (Fancy Start showing logos and such)
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\SONY\SONY PICTURE UTILITY\PMBCORE\SPUVolumeWatcher.exe (Sony Picture Motion Browser Autodetect)

Here's what I've done to try speed it up—

1. I ran a clean boot via msconfig\General\Selective Startup, unchecked Load Startup items and disabled all non-Microsoft Services. I still had the problem after the clean boot.
2. I ran the maintenance tasks from the Troubleshooter. Nothing identified.
3. System File Checker (SFC Scan) didn’t help.
4. Event Viewer\Applications and Services Logs\Microsoft\Windows\Diagnostics-Performance\Operational lists the slow shut down but no potential causes of significant duration.
5. Regedit to set WaitToKillAppTimeout and HungAppTimeout values to 1000 in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control PanelDesktop and HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop. Also set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control WaitToKillServiceTimeout to 1000. Some entries were missing and some were set to 12000. No joy.
6. I went back to my oldest Restore Point but it wasn’t very old. One of my clean-up utilities deletes old points. I need to change that. So I still have the problem.

Is there something else I should try?

Thanks,
Paul
