It requires almost a minute for shut down. That doesn't seem long compared to others' shut downs but I find it annoying. I used a utility to list the running Services—

Here's what I've done to try speed it up—
1. I ran a clean boot via msconfig\General\Selective Startup, unchecked Load Startup items and disabled all non-Microsoft Services. I still had the problem after the clean boot.
2. I ran the maintenance tasks from the Troubleshooter. Nothing identified.
3. System File Checker (SFC Scan) didn’t help.
4. Event Viewer\Applications and Services Logs\Microsoft\Windows\Diagnostics-Performance\Operational lists the slow shut down but no potential causes of significant duration.
5. Regedit to set WaitToKillAppTimeout and HungAppTimeout values to 1000 in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control PanelDesktop and HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop. Also set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control WaitToKillServiceTimeout to 1000. Some entries were missing and some were set to 12000. No joy.
6. I went back to my oldest Restore Point but it wasn’t very old. One of my clean-up utilities deletes old points. I need to change that. So I still have the problem.
Is there something else I should try?
