I built my computer (first build) back in Oct '09, which I probably did prematurely, given my lack of knowledge of PCs in general. Anyway, I had this problem then, but because I had been without a PC and the internet for quite a few years, and it wasn't really affecting anything, I decided to enjoy having my PC and not worry about it. I did follow some instructions given then about updating drivers (which I did). Now, I am ready to really learn about the beast I built and fix the problems. This is the error code that comes up when I try to open cpu-z....Help Please?

[bInitDriver] path = C:\Windows\system32\drivers
[bInitDriver] GetCurrentDirectory = C:\Program Files\CPUID\CPU-Z
[bInitDriver] GetModuleFileName = C:\Program Files\CPUID\CPU-Z\cpuz.exe
[vGetOSVersion] m_iOSVersion = 2 (6.1)
[vGetOSVersion] m_bIsAMD64 = 0
[bInitDriver] m_hDriverMutex = A4
[bInitDriver] m_szPath_2 = C:\Windows\system32\drivers
[bInitDriver] m_szFilename = cpuz132_x64.sys
[bLockDriverHandle 20:01:32] WaitForSingleObject error = 0
[WinNT_bInstallDriver] szMachineName = MIKEC-PC
[WinNT_bInstallDriver] OpenSCManager failed, error code = 5
[vReleaseDriverHandle] release mutex = 0
[bInitDriver] bInitDriver returned 5
[vCloseDriver 20:01:32] WaitForSingleObject error = 0
[WinNT_dwUninstallDriver] OpenSCManager failed, error code = 5
[vCloseDriver] CloseHandle(mutex) = 1

Do you have all the proper latest drivers installed for your mobo's chipset?

Do you have the latest updated BIOS firmware which is v3.6?

Using the latest drivers for all you motherboard's components?

http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=do...1&prod_no=1703

BTW, that's a sweet system build you have there. I'm a little jealous!

I thought I did, but I will double check. Now, I do have a question. I was at the MSI website a while ago, and they have 8 drivers listed on that page. If I am not doing a RAID config. on my storage, do I still need to download those. Also, do I need to uninstall anything before installing any of those drivers? As you can see, I am VERY inexperienced at this stuff, but I am more than willing to take advise and very grateful for it. and Thank You very much.

You don't need the RAID drivers if you're not running a RAID setup, but if you have AHCI enabled in the BIOS, which speeds up the SATA drives, you'll need to download the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver.

You shouldn't need to uninstall any drivers. The RealTek audio drivers will tell you if it needs to uninstall the old one, just follow the prompts and you'll be good.

check your device manager for any prior driver issues and update as needed.

Ok, I downloaded the realtek driver. It is a zip file, so I extract the zip. Now I have a ton of folders and other files. What in the heck do I do? Which one is the one that installs the new driver? There are files for XP, win2000, vista, vista64. This is very confusing. I clicked on a file that said "setup" it then uninstalled whatever current realtek driver I had. This is definitely a very humbling experience. Thanks to whoever for whatever help they can give. i will check the device manager now..thanks bass.

Realtek before it can update to the newest driver will uninstall the old driver first, then it will reboot the computer. Then you go back to the "setup" file and it will install fine then.

You did fine, you just need to go to setup file and execute and tadaa! You're There!

I realize it is confusing if you're new to all this stuff, but after a while you'll see how easy it really is. In a couple of month or whenever, you look back at laugh at all this.
