Hello Experts,

There are a number of computer progs that I use occasionally in Win 7
but they always appear with startups and I find it a nuisance.

How to nail them down until I WANT to use them?

TIA

CCleaner (free) includes a tool for examining the Startup programs. You
can disable them, or delete them from the list. Be careful: some of the
items are things you need.

There are also the Services to be examined. Many people have Google
update, printer, and more loaded at each boot.
Task Manager/ Services tab.

TIA,

Step one is to identify the programs, at least by name if not by full
path. Only after that is done should you be asking for assistance.

You're developing a track record for asking vague questions. Perhaps
it's time to read that Microsoft link again that helps you to ask good
questions.

I use this application XP, it also works On Windows 7.
WhatInStartup v1.32
Copyright (c) 2009 - 2011 Nir Sofer
Web site: http://www.nirsoft.net

Description
This utility displays the list of all applications that are loaded
automatically when Windows starts up. For each application, the following
information is displayed: Startup Type (Registry/Startup Folder),
Command-Line String, Product Name, File Version, Company Name, Location in
the Registry or file system, and more.
It allows you to easily disable or delete unwanted programs that runs in
your Windows startup. You can use it on your currently running instance of
Windows, as well as you can use it on external instance of Windows in
another drive.
WhatInStartup also supports a special "Permanent Disabling" feature - If a
program that you previously disabled added itself again to the startup list
of Windows, WhatInStartup will automatically detect the change and disable
it again.

I would suggest using WinPatrol from BillP Studios. It is a free
program with an easy to use interface.

What programs? The answer is different for different ones.

Why will you never provide a complete, detailed description? Do you
really want to be begged for the missing information? That's kind of a
sick game, don't you think? If you ask a well-formed question you're
likely to get good, fast, direct, well-informed CORRECT answers and
you'll solve your problem quickly. Isn't that what you want?

Check this out, it will help:

Now that that other chick is gone, I guess someone had to take her
place.

Thanks to all, especially Irwell.

I have dnloaded and ran WhatsInStartup and didn't get much info.

The prog I was looking for had the following info:

WhatsInStartup

Name: Prog1
Registry: Usr Run
CMD Line: C:\Prog files\ blah blah-----\prog1.exe
Disabled: No
Location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Window\CurrentVersion\Run
Process path: C:\Program Files\blah blah \prog1\prog1.exe

This Prog1 does not appear to be available, except in this registry and
it is more involved than I thought.

TIA
