Changes in Windows 8 Life Mail Tool Bar...

I have reinstall Windows 8 on my laptop
and to my surprise I got a new Toolbar
in WLM. NO icons only text. I wonder
whether Microsoft have swapped the ugly
icons for text only Tool bar?

Probably need to install "Essentials". This will restore all those lovely
icons.

You really have Windows *8*? If you have the Dev Preview version
(pre-beta aka alpha) than you opted to be an unpaid tester. See

not yet setup a web-based Answers forum specifically for Windows 8.

Doesn't mention WLM is included in an installation of Windows 8, only
that Windows 8 support the Live Connect service. The article at

says Microsoft dumped the Live products in Windows 8. Perhaps what
you're experiencing is the new Metro style for apps. Yet the article

indicates that the Metro style Live apps aren't included in Windows 8
(but that's a 4-month old article and you didn't say when you downloaded
the apha software). Did YOU download WLM and install it or did it come
bundled in Windows 8?

Since Windows 8 has not yet been released and you have a dev version of
it, don't they provide a means of providing feedback when you find
something wrong with their pre-beta software? The only contact I see
mentioned on the above Windows 8 site is their Windows Dev Center at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/windows which is of no real help and
only toss you over to their Metro Apps forums.

WLM is discussed in its own newsgroup at:
microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

They'll probably want to know what VERSION of WLM that you have.

Winston stuck his signature in the WRONG place so it gets confusing just
what he intends to cite as quoted content. After all, EVERYTHING after
the sigdash seperator is in the *signature*, not really quoted content.

Maybe he meant that the OP's headers would reveal what version of WLM
the OP is using. v14 is what the OP chose to post with here. That does
NOT mean it's the version of WLM that the OP is using on the pre-beta
version of Windows 8. I don't presume that when a poster is asking
about a newsreader problem that they are necessary using that same host
and/or the same newsreader that they used to post their problem.

If Microsoft is bundling WLM with Windows 8, why would they be dumping
in an old version 14 (Wave 4) in the bundle? Why not v15 (which winston
uses and which incorrectly quotes [by not quoting] cited content)? WLM
v15 was released before the pre-beta dev release (note the "dev" in the
release name and why the OP probably shouldn't be touching it). V15 is
their Wave 5 edition and the Wave 5 level is mentioned in some Windows 8
articles. So I figure Microsoft dumped the even more screwed up v15 aka
Wave 5 version in with Windows 8; however, I can't be sure the OP didn't
download and install an old v14 and is posting using that or the OP
downloaded v15 or used the latest version of WLM bundled in Windows 8
(which is probably v15) and is using a different host+newsreader combo
to post here. What a user posts with may not be the setup they are
asking about.

Unless it's some Metro style problem with WLM (if WLM even supports it
and a Metro version of WLM has been released yet), it's still probably
the same WLM that pre-8 Windows users are still using and why I
mentioned asking in the newsgroup about WLM. It's a WLM issue and not
likely probably not a Windows 8 issue. Yet it could be some theming
issue in Windows 8 (and v15 - and especially v14) weren't released after
Windows 8 (but the other way around) so there's some theming features
that older apps may not support.

Note that it's possible the OP meant to ask about using WLM under
Windows *7*; however, I doubt that since it means a double mistype in
both the Subject header and in the body of the OP's post. Also, the OP
might have some difficulties getting his laptop back to whatever OS came
pre-installed on it. The OP is going to have to do a factory image
restore or go through a fresh install of the old OS. The Windows 8
pages specifically say that you cannot revert back to the old version of
Windows after installing v8 and that a fresh install is needed for the
old OS. Hope the OP knows how to properly and fully restore his laptop
back to a legitimate and supported version of Windows (i.e., the license
that came with the laptop).
