cant boot in safe mode

Hi i am in need of some help asap please....
system crashed, will not boot successfully. can not get past the compaq restore\recovery program. i want to start in safe mode to copy data to portable drive before resetting to factory settings.
when i try to select safe mode after hitting f8 it crashes with a blue screen..

Boot from your Windows dvd and first try running Startup Repair. If that doesn't solve the issue try the Command Prompt option and type in sfc /scannow. If neither of those work, then it's clean-install time. You may try chkdisk /r from the command prompt also, but if Startup Repair and sfc /scannow don't fix your problem chkdisk probably won't either.
