Cannon scanner on W7.

Has anybody found a solution to run a Canon Lide 30 scanner on W7. Canon say
they probably won't release a driver for it cos the scanner is too old.
(Mine's 5 yrs and hardly used thanks Cannon) Vista driver won't do it.

Isn't that a twain compliant scanner? I have one, and I never used the
install disk with it because it worked with software I aleady had
installed. I just had to select it. That was with XP, but have you tried
using anything that allows you to import images from a scanner?

I have a Canon U650N that has the same problem. Vuescan
(www.hamrick.com) has suitable drivers that allows me to use the
scanner in Win 7 64 bit, it will likely work for you too.

Probably would, but surely there's a freeware driver somewhere. . If I have
to pay I'd rather put it towards a new combination printer/scanner.

I had a similar problem with a HP scanner only basic drivers available which
meant I could not use it to scan negs and transparencies only documents.
After waiting to see if HP would update there drivers I stumbeled on how to
install as xp or vista compatible.
First Right click on the setup exe folder for your scanner then the
compatibility tab in Properties Select XP or Vist depending on the age of
your drivers Then ok your way back out and then left click open install as
administrator And it should then go ahead and complete the install

Given how old it is, might want to pickup a printer with your next PC
purchase. Usually for $29, less than the price of a cartridge you can
get an all in one.

I have a Canon Lide 20 if my wife hasn't hucked it. Haven't used it in
8 years. They were not very good, but were cheap.

If your version of Windows 7 and your PC can support it, the Lide will
run in XP compatibility in 32 bits. In 64 bits, it won't work at all.

I tried this. It requires the canon driver which won't install except
in compatibility mode.

Bleah. All in one equipment blows. Chunks. Have one part fail, then
you're without all of it, if you send it in for repairs. Not to mention
that it's generally low-end consumer-grade stuff.

My solution for having no driver, was to sell the old one, and buy an Epson
Perfection V500. The guy I sold the old one to traded it for a LIDE
scanner. Figures.

Heh, I've got a use for one, if someone would give it to me for free. I
think it would be nice, turned into a portable lightbox. Just need the
right LEDs, and put translucent white (either a sheet of plastic, or spray
paint) to diffuse the light.
