Merry Christmas to you all,

Got a nice new had drive from Mr. Clause, however I only have one SATA power connector. I don't know if the new drive is formatted, and I don't know if the drive is new or second hand.

If I could format the drive from within the Windows 7 setup menu, I could leave the XP HDD without any power and just plug the power into the 7-to-be drive, which would save me the effort of going out on boxing and buying the IDE-SATA power adapter.

So can I format the drive within setup?

Yes you can format the drive from within setup. Choose the Custom install and when you get to the screen to choose the drive to install to. There will be advanced options which will allow you to format or even partition the drive if you wish.

Here's a link to great guide on how to do a clean install of Windows 7

http://howtocleaninstall.com/pdftuto...indows%207.pdf

I would upload it to the site, but they have some silly upload restriction of 1.2MB, the file is a 2.5MB upload.

Go download that PDF file and read it, it is really good!
