Why not?

It's the scanner, not the OS, that is needed, plus S/W to address it
closely.

If worse comes to worst, replace the scanner by a chain-type impact
tinter and just choose your text wisely.

Yes you can. Most Windows PCs have more than adaquate speed for the
timing needed. Even laptops. Just need to write the code.
Can drive it all through USB ports and/or serial and/or parallel ports.
Not a problem.

That is an Impressive system and unique software coding shown in the
video.

Hopefully he wrote the general case for the code so he can play any
song. He should take it on the road.

It sounds like the Atari or TI (whichever) was used to generate the
audio tones, and the scanner & HD to generate the "noise".
Windows with sequencing/sampling software should be able to generate a
similar audio sequence without the aid of the extra hardware.
The addition of a music keyboard (midi or USB) might make things easier.

I believe so.
